AmaWaterways and Adventures by Disney have teamed up to bring the river cruise experience to multi-generational families. It’s not exactly “Disney” with characters on the ship or in ports but rather Disney-trained “Adventure Guides” who will introduce special excursions.

How about visiting a 900-year old castle in Passau with your kids or grandkids while watching a live falconry show? Or hanging out with Hungarian cowboys, taking a carriage ride, and learning how to make goulash?

AmaWaterways is building the AmaViola designed specifically for families featuring connecting cabins, which are unique in the world of river cruising, and kids menu options. The ship will spend more time in port than most other itineraries offering more time to get to know the locals.

In July 2016, families can sail four 7-day itineraries between Vilshofen, Germany and Budapest, Hungary. A fifth family cruise from Budapest to Vilshofen will sail December 22 to explore the Christmas markets and European holiday traditions.

The minimum age for sailing is 4, but the recommended age is 8 and older. Prices start at $4,100 per person for adults, $3,900 per person for children. Book now to take advantage of special promotions and to get the best stateroom selection.
